The common way of saying nice to meet you in French
1. Enchanté/enchantée – Delighted to meet you
This is the simplest way of saying nice to meet you in French. In English, enchanté/enchantée translates to “enchanted”, which means to attract, or to charm. In French, meanwhile, the precise meaning is “I’m delighted”.
The pronunciation for the masculine (enchanté) and feminine (enchantée) is the same, as the last e in the feminine form is silent. Enchanté/enchantée is what native French speakers say whenever they want to express pleasure in meeting someone.

2. C’est un plaisir de vous rencontre – Pleased to meet you
A more formal way of saying nice to meet you in French, “C’est un plaisir de vous rencontre” particularly expressed pleasure in meeting someone. A casual variation of this is “C’est un plaisir de te rencontrer” and “C’est un plaisir de faire ta Connaissance”. They both mean “nice to meet you”.
Meanwhile, if you want to communicate pleasure in being able to talk to someone, you say “C’est me fait plaisir de discuter avec vous”. If you are both pleased and happy to meet someone, the right thing to say is “Heureux(se) de faire votre connaissance”.
3. Ravi de faire votre connaissance – Pleased to make your acquaintance
This expression is quite tricky. It is also a way to say goodbye in French while saying that you had a great time (being with someone). As a way to say nice to meet you, however, “Ravi de faire votre connaissance” means “Pleased to make your acquaintance”.
Additionally, this expression is considered to be the formal version of “Enchanté/enchantée”. In this context, the literal translation is pleased to make your acquaintance. When addressing a group of people, regardless of whether it’s formal or casual, “Ravi de faire votre connaissance” is still what you say to express pleasure in meeting them.

This is the French way to say nice to meet you that is both a bit formal and kind of casual. It has a compliment in it along with the usual “nice to meet you”, wherein you tell a person that you have heard some great things about him or her.
“On m’a beaucoup parlé de vous” is a way of communicating pleasure in meeting someone and at the same time giving a compliment. This expression means “They told me a lot about you” or “I heard a lot about you”.
A variation of this is the formal “Je suis honoré(e) de faire votre connaissance” which means “I am honored to meet you” which may indicate that the other person is someone you look up to or admire.
7. Bonjour, Enchanté/enchantée – Hello, nice to meet you
This is a combination of the standard hello in French and the casual nice to meet you. Something that can be used in both casual and formal situations, this expression is short yet genuine. It is usually heard in situations when someone is introduced to a group of people, to express pleasure in meeting them.
Other ways to say “nice to meet you” in French
Apart from the common expressions mentioned, there are other ways to express delight in meeting someone.
Not all these have exact English translations but they’re not difficult to understand. Some of these may be used on their own while others may be combined with some of the expressions in this list.
- Heureux(euse) de te rencontrer – literally means “happy to meet you”.
- On m’a tellement parler de vous – the exact translation of this is “Someone has spoken to me a lot about you”, intended as a compliment.
- Ca m’a fait plaisir de discuter avec vous – It was a pleasure speaking with you
- C’était bien agréable de pouvoir vous parler – a variation of “Ca m’a fait plaisir de discuter avec vous“, but this one means “It was great to speak with you”.
- C’était un plaisir de parler avec toi – this means “It was a pleasure speaking to you”, and another variation of “Ca m’a fait plaisir de discuter avec vous“.
- Je suis enchantée de faire votre connaissance – another highly formal way of saying Nice to meet you in French. This one means ‘I am delighted to have made your acquaintance”.
