About the song
“Pour que tu m’aimes encore” (So That You’ll Love Me Again) is a French-language song by Canadian singer Celine Dion. This track was originally intended for her French album, D’eux (1995). The single was initially released on March 13th, 1995 in Francophone countries, and in September 1995 in other European countries.
Dion claims “Pour que tu m’aimes encore” is the most successful song of her French career. On her 1996 album Falling into You, she also included an English version of the song titled “If That’s What It Takes.”
One of Celine Dion’s most recognizable hits as well as a famous French song,”Pour que tu m’aimes encore,” was written and produced by Jean-Jacques Goldman. The song is performed from a woman’s perspective, asking her ex-lover to love her again by saying she will do anything to make him come back.
In France, “Pour que tu m’aimes encore” was a massive hit, spending 12 weeks at the top of the singles chart. As the best-selling single and most-played song of 1995, it was certified platinum for sales of one million copies.
The song topped the charts in Wallonia, Belgium, for 15 weeks, and Quebec, Canada, for 4 months. Belgium issued a Platinum certification for it.
“Pour que tu m’aimes encore” enjoyed unprecedented success for a French song in the United Kingdom and Ireland, where it also charted in the top ten. Virgin17 claims that over 4 million copies of the single have been sold worldwide.
Twenty years after its first release, in 2015, the song was still popular enough to climb to #5 on Billboard’s France Digital Songs Sales Chart.
“Pour que tu m’aimes encore” was nominated for two awards: a Félix Award for Song of the Year and a Trophée Radio France Internationale award for “Consultations Francophones de la Chanson.” The song also took home the trophy for “Best Song of the Year” at the Victoires de la Musique awards ceremony.
In reviews, the track was praised for its “beautiful ballad” qualities. According to the pan-European publication Music & Media, “it would be unjust to dismiss this passionate song with a good beat composed by Jean-Jacques Goldman just because it’s in French.” Regardless of the language, Dion always sings from the heart.
This song was later featured on four live albums by Celine Dion: Live à Paris, Au cur du stade, Taking Chances World Tour: The Concert (French edition), and Céline une seule fois/Live 2013.
The song has also been included in three compilation albums. These are The Collector’s Series, Volume One, On ne change pas, and My Love: Ultimate Essential Collection.
J’irai chercher ton cœur si tu l’emportes ailleurs
Fallait pas commencer, m’attirer, me toucher
J’irai chercher ton cœur si tu l’emportes ailleurs

Pour Que Tu m’aimes Encore English Lyrics and Translation
You’re the bravest of hearts
You’re the strongest of souls
You’re my light in the dark
You’re the place I call home
You can say it’s all right
But I know that you’re breaking up inside
I see it in your eyes
Even you face the night
Afraid and alone
That’s why I’ll be there
When the storm rises up
When the shadows descend
Every beat of my heart
Every day without end
Every second I live
That’s the promise I make
Baby, that’s what I’ll give
If that’s what it takes
If that’s what it takes
You can sleep in my arms
You don’t have to explain
When your heart’s crying out
Baby, whisper my name
‘Cause I’ve reached out for you
When the thunder is crashing up above
You’ve given me your love
When you smile like the sun
That shines through the rain
That’s why I’ll be there
When the storm rises up
When the shadows descend
Every beat of my heart
Every day without end
I will stand like a rock
I will bend ’til I break
‘Til there’s no more to give
If that’s what it takes
I will risk everything
I will fight, I will bleed
I will lay down my life
If that’s what you need
Every second I live
That’s the promise I make
Baby, that’s what I’ll give
If that’s what it takes
Through the wind and the rain
Through the smoke and the fire
When the fear rises up
When the wave’s ever higher
I will lay down my heart
My body, my soul
I will hold on all night
And never let go
Every second I live
That’s the promise I make
Baby, that’s what I’ll give
If that’s what it takes
If that’s what it takes
Whatever it takes
Whatever it takes
If that’s what it takes
Oh ooh
Whatever, whatever it takes
