1. France is known for its iconic symbol – the Eiffel Tower

Without a doubt, France is famous for its iconic landmark – the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 and unveiled at the World Fair (Exposition Universelle) which was held to honor the French Revolution’s centennial year.

The tower was constructed from a design by Gustave Eiffel, which was chosen from hundreds and hundreds of proposals.

However, when the construction started, there were plenty of dissenters. Including Charles Garnier, who designed the grandiose Palais Garnier.

Originally thought to be an eyesore and a monstrous monument – to this day, Eiffel Tower has become the national symbol of France.

2. France is well-known as a romantic country

Romance is almost synonymous with France. From the language of love to the City of Love, to its beautiful architecture and enchanting castles – this country speaks of romance like no other.

Aside from being one of the top honeymoon destinations in Europe, France is also a popular proposal spot.

This country also produced some of the most romantic love songs sang by the great French singers and heart-rending love quotes from the great French thinkers like Voltaire and Victor Hugo.

3. French cuisine is popular all over the world

One of the most interesting facts related to French food is that the French cuisine is in UNESCO Heritage’s list of intangible cultural heritage. That’s how good French cuisine is.

French cuisine is popular all over the world – from traditional dishes like ratatouille, onion soup, escargot, and cordon bleu to pastries and bread, like macaron, eclair, and baguette.

France is also where Michelin Guides was founded. Known originally as a tire maker, this company started producing guides for food connoisseurs all over the world.

Today, Michelin Guide is one of the most coveted ratings in the restaurant industry. It’s like the Oscars for food and it has been proven that getting a star from Michelin Guide can have a big impact on the success of a restaurant.

4. French is known as a romantic language

French is often considered one of the sexiest and most romantic languages in the world.

I don’t know if it’s the accent or the way the words are pronounced but there’s something in the way that French people talk.

Even the basic and often non-romantic words like enchantée, bonjour, merci or au revoir can sound sexy and flirty. Needless to say, the common endearments in France can melt your heart.

5. France is famous for its world-class arts and museum

Hands down, the museums in France are some of the best in the world.

The Louvre is the biggest museum in the world that also houses the most coveted art pieces – from the Mona Lisa to the Raft of Medusa.

Other popular museums in Paris include Musée d’Orsay, Grand Palais des Champs-Élysées and Musée National Rodin.

France is also known for its amazing artists which include Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, and Henri Rousseau just to name a few.

6. France is known for its fashion

Fashion automatically comes to mind when people hear about France. It’s not surprising as Paris is the fashion capital of the world.

There’s no model in the world who doesn’t dream of walking on a runway in Paris or being dressed up by a long list of world-famous French luxury designers.

Designer clothes are not the only thing that’s most coveted fashion in France though, the country is also well known for its luxury bags. From Chanel to Louis Vuitton to Hermes, you won’t run out of reasons to swipe that card!

7. France is known for its wine

French wine is only the third-largest producer of wine, after Italy and Spain, but it has the highest share of global export. I mean, most of the grape varieties that produce the best wines that we know today have French names – Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, etc. If that is not an indicator of how popular French wines are, I don’t know what is.

Most of the fine dining restaurants in the world also have a French wine list – more so than other countries producing wines.

8. French cheese is among the most popular in the world

Ah, the French cheese. What France is known for is endless and the varieties of cheese in this country are the same.

There are over 1500 varieties of cheese in France. That’s over 1500 times the fun!

As a former cheese lover myself (thanks to lactose intolerance), France is a haven. Among the popular cheese varieties that you can find in France are camembert, brie, Roquefort, etc.

9. France is the most visited country in the world

Yes, France is so famous that makes it the number one visited country in the world. The country receives over 90 million annually and has around 13% share of the world’s international tourists arrival.

The biggest tourist arrival in the country is in Paris, followed by Nice and Lyon. These cities are the most popular destinations in France.

10. Lavender fields are synonymous with France

When people hear about lavender fields, they automatically think of France.

Provence, one of the popular regions in the country, has some of the best lavender fields that you can enjoy during summer.

These lavender fields go on for miles and there’s nothing more magical but to be surrounded by these flowers while in full bloom. And it’s more amazing that lavender has some of the world’s most amazing scent!

Personally, it’s my favorite scent in the world, and I love going home to an apartment that smells lavender. It is also the reason why I’m a big hoarder of L’occitane shampoo and conditioner.

11. France is famous for its amazing perfumes

France is also known for its amazing perfumery. I grew up in the Philippines but like the rest of the women across the world who have a penchant for good perfume, I have only used French perfume brands. After all, France is the perfume capital of the world.

From Guerlain to Chanel No. 5 to Estee Lauder – I have tried it all. But my favorite? Lancome.

French perfume brands are among the most popular brands in the world and for a good reason. They exude what the French are known for – elegance, sophistication, and sensuality.
